Don’t Paws the Party - Just Prep Your Pet
Fireworks might be the highlight of your Fourth of July weekend, but loud noises and flashing lights can be scary for our four-legged friends! More pets go missing July 4-6 than any other time of year. That’s why it’s so important to take these safety tips to heart to ensure your pet’s comfort and security during your Independence Day festivities.
Tip #1: Keep your pet indoors in a smaller, quiet, and safe room with closed windows and soft music. Include their bed, favorite toys, and water and consider entertaining them with a safe enrichment activity.
Tip #2: Take them for a long walk in the morning before fireworks and parades start so they can get their exercise in early in the day and burn off energy to stay calmer.
Tip #3: Make sure your pet has the proper identification (hello Quick-Tag ID!) so they can return home safely if they run away or try to escape when panicked.
Tip #4: When it’s time to head outside, keep your pet on a harness or leash so they stay close and don’t bolt if they get spooked. For cats, it’s best to keep them indoors with easy access to a litter box to avoid any escape attempts.
Tip #5: When the night ends, don’t forget to pick up firework debris that may cause your pet harm if ingested.
Following these tips will ensure you and your pet are happy, safe, and secure during the celebrations!
